I fade in and out of you
like a state of consciousness
the brain and vision slipping
in and out of you

I am in and back out of you
before I know and don’t know it

You are in and out of your house
you walk in and out of the mall
with the trends you are
in and out of touch with your friends

You sway in and out with the trees
you crawl in and out of the leaves
like the squirrel you are
in and out of food for the fall

We wave in and out of the sea
we float in and out with the boats
in the harbor we are
in and out of the nets with the fish

showing skin in September
with enough attention
to last all winter
so they can hibernate
